Strategic Finance Business Partners operate at a strategic level, focused on partnering with key stakeholders across Primark to protect and drive sustainable growth in the business. As a key member of the strategic finance team, you will work with leadership and senior stakeholders from across the business, advising and critically challenging strategic and operational decision making. You will bring analytical, commercial, and strategic insights to drive performance and value creation. This role will be central to driving Transformation at Primark with a particular focus on how we accelerate existing cost base efficiencies and seek out future optimisation opportunities. Key Responsibilities: Business Partner - Act as lead strategic finance partner for all aspects of the multiyear cost programme, working side by side with business stakeholders to design & deliver value at a strategic and operational level. Collaboration - Work collaboratively to construct compelling pieces of analysis, outlining issues, opportunities, and solutions. Relationships - Lead by example by developing trusting and collaborative relationships with stakeholders of all levels of seniority. Innovation - Bring new ideas to the business, solving issues and shaping financial and business strategy. Challenges self and others to think creatively. Value creation - Future focus, forward looking activities to help maximise opportunity to create long term value. Financial advisor - Guides and influences key stakeholders and customers to achieve Primark's desired financial outcomes. Commercial approach - Using deep business & commercial understanding, enable, challenge & influence strategic/business plans, identify areas of risk & opportunity. Strategic mindset - Approach decision making by finding appropriate balance between financial analysis and strategic bigger picture thinking. Investment appraisals - Drive financial appraisals of initiatives working cross functionally to deliver investment outcomes. Technical & Behavioural Competencies: Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders strategically within a commercial context and strong track record of business partnering with a senior-level client base. Strong communication skills. Ability to structure/present compelling stories to support decision making. Uses data, analytics and insights to corroborate opinions. Strong commercial and financial acumen with the ability to quickly assimilate the implications of our performance or various strategic options and be able to communicate these clearly. Strong organisational, planning and delegation skills to balance many responsibilities simultaneously. Self-motivated with the ability to be comfortable in an agile, unstructured role. Promotes a positive culture and displays resilience when devising and implementing change. Ability to work independently and pro-actively. Demonstrates strong leadership skills and ability to build collaborative working relationships Successful candidates will meet the following criteria: Background in a top-tier consulting firm or internal business partnering/strategy/transformation team with 7+ years' experience working in a strategic, financial or commercial capacity. Strong grasp of financial concepts (e.g. budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, financial models & metrics) and ability to partner with finance teams to interpret data and build business cases. Has previously held a key role in delivering a successful multiyear cost out programme or similarly large-scale transformation programme, preferably within a fast-paced retail/FMCG environment. Action orientated with the ability to identify and drive innovative opportunities for growth, working cross functionally, not just identifying a problem or solution but making the change. Working with leadership and key stakeholders, the strategic finance team support, advise and critically challenges strategic and operational decision making across the business bringing analytical, commercial and strategic insights to drive performance and value creation Example areas of where the strategic finance team spend their time include Business Strategy & Planning, Technology & Digital, Property & New Markets and Operational & Tactical Activities. This role will work across strategic initiatives within the Primark Property areas of the organisation, including Property, Retail, Store Development, Space Planning and International Expansion. Although the analyst will naturally be focused on these areas, the expectation is that they will work in an agile nature in providing support across focus activities on the team Key Responsibilities: Providing relevant financial analysis and assisting with the development of financial models and investment cases to support the long-term strategic goals of both the existing and proposed property portfolio (new store opportunities, store refits, lease renegotiations, franchise operations, international expansion etc) Ensuring all proposed investment decisions are appropriately presented with clear explanations of value drivers and recommendations Ensuring all data and information used in any investment appraisals are robust and appropriate You will use an analytical data-driven approach to provide insight and challenge, and partnering with the organisation to drive business performance and value in this area Support the Senior Finance Business Partners in presenting analysis and recommendations to senior stakeholders Work closely with stakeholders to provide analytical expertise, insights and intelligence so that it can be understood and used to optimise and grow store portfolio in both new and existing markets; whilst making sound financial decisions Work collaboratively across the organisation, particularly with the Strategic Finance, Property, Retail, Store Development, Space Planning, International Expansion and FP&A teams Understand our customers and our competitors, while keeping up to date with commercial trends Essential knowledge, skills and capabilities: Excellent financial modelling experience and ability to build out robust investment cases in a logical and clear manner Advanced report writing abilities with strong attention to detail A critical thinker who asks the right questions and is strong in the 'what if' Ability to build relationships across stakeholders, be commercially aware and numerically savvy Storytelling and communication skills and comfortable working cross-functionally throughout the business Commercial instinct with the ability to quickly understand the implications of a situation on our commercial performance, incorporate this into an analysis and communicate it effectively. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Lead the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting across Primark ensuring compliance with IFRS and local GAAP (where applicable), while driving the enhancement of specific accounting processes and initiatives in preparation for transition to a GBS model Management role with responsibility for preparation and analysis of robust periodic financial and management accounts as required Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results, including variance analysis, accruals and reclasses and oversee the monthly close process alongside other financial reporting teams Actively contribute to cross-functional finance transformation and process improvements projects Accounting for complex or unusual accounting areas as they might arise and support statutory reporting compliance Review and challenge periodic processes to identify opportunities to drive efficiencies through automation or revised processes Escalate, manage and report control issues with transparency in a timely manner Support delivery of strategic projects that require input from the Controllership team Key link with audit teams and other advisors ensuring timely and accurate completion of all statutory obligations, with particular focus on IFRS 9. Support the Primark Treasury function in the execution of the Primark FX strategy with responsibility for Primark's Hedge accounting and the related impact on Inventory and COGS revaluation. Review and advise on Primark's FX exposures and management mechanisms, including accounting for treasury activity to manage the same.Preparation and analysis of financial year end notes for reporting packs Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders in Treasury, Financial Planning, Financial Reporting, Tax, Internal Control and with Internal and External Audit Comfortable working and taking responsibility in a dynamic environment Provide flexible, hands-on-support across a range of ad-hoc financial reporting and financial operations including reconciliations and issue resolution Skills, Knowledge and Experience Accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA) with 6 years+ PQE preferential Industry experience would be an advantage but not a requirement Excellent attention to detail and an ability to analyse and interrogate data Strong commercial awareness with a sound knowledge of wider business factors High energy and enthusiasm, demonstrating initiative with strong work ethic Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment, without direct daily supervision and provide leadership to direct reports, peers and supervisors Excellent planning and organisation skills, ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise work schedule and work within agreed timescales Team player & strong relationship builder, able to work across numerous functions, internal & external Our fashion isn't one-size-fits-all and neither is our culture.
